Lecture

We welcome John Birch with his illustrated lecture “Our Wild Pennines”

In 2015, John decided to become a professional wildlife photographer. Although it has never been his sole source of income, it now dominates his working life. John has sold prints, written for magazines and other publications, and run photography workshops at home and overseas.

In 2018, John and his wife left the hustle of a big city to live in the open countryside, moving from the industrial midlands to a rural smallholding in a quiet valley below the splendid wilderness of the North Pennines National Landscape. He has recently moved a short distance to the rolling uplands of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, an ideal location to live and photograph local wildlife.

A recent change in circumstances has refocused his energies on photojournalism once more.

As a nature writer, photographer and long-term observer of the northern English uplands my work sits at the intersection of natural history, reportage and conservation science, shaped by thousands of hours spent in the field in all seasons. His approach is to listen: to the birds, to the weather, and to the people who share these landscapes — keepers, farmers, ecologists and volunteers.

Lecture

We welcome Alf Myers with his illustrated lecture on Street Photography.

The world of IT has held captive Alf’s creative and artistic side, however with a camera in his hand he can explore and create.
Urban, street and candid genres of photography are where he started and grew up, however, it is the world of Street Photography that inspires me and helps to give a style to my portraits and weddings.

Alf loves to capture the feelings people have and translate them into the images he produces.
Alf is a Preston based photographer and he particularly enjoys exploring the towns and cities of the north west of England.

29th October 2026

Inter Club Competition

We will be hosting this meeting, which will be the second round of an inter club competition with our friends from Bury Photographic Society.

Both clubs submit 10 Prints and 10 PDIs to independent judge Graham Currey, who comments on each image and scores them out of 20 points. The club with the most points at the end of the meeting is the winner.
