Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Our final PDI competition for this year took place on Thursday 19 September with guest judge Tremaine Cornish EFIAP BPE2* He said he gives positive comments that will encourage workers not demoralise them.

There were 27 images in the Themed section, and this month the themed was Candid / Street Photography. After the initial run through Tremaine gave his opinions and scored them between 13 and 16 points with eleven held back for further consideration.

A score of 17 points were awarded to “Out for the Count” by Jeff Layer, “Next Stop Piccadilly” by Alan Bromily, “Arcade Reflections” by Nina Thomasson, “Bombay Barrow Boys” by Chris Evans and “Manchester Workers” by Ian Walker.

In third place with 18 points was “Three Graces at the Races” by Richard Towell, described by Tremaine as a good image that “had a story” and the author had “captured the moment well.”

Three images were awarded 19 points: “Attitude” by David Hawkins, “Kiss” by Phil Durkin and “Outside No 22” by Peter Thomasson.

Tremaine felt that “Attitiude” was "all about the stroppy lad” and the “good treatment gave it a grungy feel.” “Kiss” was an image that “really communicated the moment” and was “well caught.” Tremaine was not sure what treatment had been used to bring out the number 22 plaque in “Outside No 22” but felt it worked very well and he said the whole image was “very effective.”

The winner with 20 points was “Night Time on Broadway” by Mike Hesp, which Tremaine said had a “good story” and was “full of impact.”

The scores can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to see all the scores should consult the competition binder on display at the Club.
