Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Our fourth Themed Competition for prints took place on Thursday 16th August 2012 with Oliver Doree from Accrington Camera Club as guest judge.

The theme this month was Multi Cultural Bolton, and six authors rose to the challenge.

After an initial run through, Oliver gave his comments and scores. He said “the top three all capture the feel of multi culture”, and the top two “were both strong images on a similar theme” as they both were of a group of people.

Third place went to “Kids on steps” by Walter Morykin, described by Oliver as having “a good lead in” and he liked the slight softness to the image” and said it was “a cheerful shot”

After much deliberation second place was awarded to “Asia and Africa on Bolton Town Hall Steps” by Richard Towell. Judge Oliver felt the image had “two separate groups of people rather than being united” and he felt it was a bit dark in the right hand corner. He said it captured the theme well.

Top score and first place went to “A Smile for the Camera” by Paul Baybut. Judge Oliver liked the happy faces, and said it worked well. He appreciated the fact that the author had spent time with colour popping, and the effect worked well. He said “this was a strong image,” and “the group integrates well.”

Here are the results and judges comments of the Themed Images in the Print Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to know all the scores and Oliver's comments can see them in the Competition binder on display at the club.
