Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

There were 16 prints in the monthly competition held on Thursday 16th August 2012 with guest judge Oliver Doree from Accrington Camera Club. Five prints were held back during scoring for further consideration, and Oliver said that he could “see the quality and workmanship shining through these prints.”

Third place and 18 points was awarded to “Rattan Clough Farm” by Kevin Shipley. Described by Oliver as “atmospheric” he said “the farm has seen better days.” He liked the detail from front to back on this print.

Second place and 19 points went to “The Widow” by Paul Baybut as judge Oliver said “the exposure has been handled really well. He added “the lighting is very good, and the background is well muted”, and the print “has a sense of mystery.”

The full 20 points and first place was awarded to “Alienated” by Paul Baybut. Judge Oliver admitted this is “very different, very strong and very creative.” He liked the feeling of “out of this world” and liked “the good position of the head,” pointing out that “the eyes draw you in.”

Here are the results and judges comments of the top three Advanced Class images in the Print Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to see all the scores and Oliver's comments should consult the competition binder on display at the Club.
