Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Our monthly Open competition for projected images took place on Thursday 19th January 2012 with an all time high number of 123 images. Our judge, Tony Duffey CPAGB from Southport, performed a sterling job in giving helpful comments on every image. Tony is keen on Macro images and admitted that “all the images were of a very high standard, with no duff images.” He felt that “all the beginners should be commended on the high standards”.

In the Beginners Class competition 18 members submitted a total of 48 images, of which 8 were held back for further consideration by judge Tony. The winner was “The Night Watchman at Formby” by Philip Durkin, which judge Tony said was “ very well handled.” Tony liked the unusual angle with the sun behind the statue, and pointed out the detail in both the sand and the sky. Tony was impressed that there was no glare, and said this image was “very well done.”

Second Place went to “Harvest Mouse: Time For A Bite To Eat” by new member Richard Towell. Judge Tony admitted he was torn between this image and the winner as it was difficult to chose between them. Tony commented, “this image could have been taken in the wild or as a set piece, but either way it still had to be taken,” adding “it was pin sharp" and “spot on.”

Third place went to “Bolton’s Bright Sparks” by Paul Longden. Judge Tony said “it is never easy to achieve” a good image of fireworks, and  “this image has been superbly handled” It is “pin sharp, beautiful and well done.”

Here are the results and judges comments of the top three beginners images in the Projected Image Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. In addition, any member wanting to know their individual scores should consult the Competition binder on display at the Club.
