Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Thursday 20 October saw our final Themed Print competition of this year, with 14 images being presented to guest judge Harry Emmett form Accrington Camera Club Harry said that the overall quality and standard of the prints was very good, but some prints were possibly entered “out of loyalty rather than through creative thought.” He said that the comments were his opinions, and it would be boring if we all liked the same images.

First place and 20 points went to Frank Green for “Basket of Strawberries” which Harry said “was good enough to eat.” He said the author “took care on the soft light source”, and he wondered if it was it from a window. Judge Harry said “the blue / cool colour cloth makes the red of the fruit stand out more.”

Second place and 19 points went to “Men at Work” by Tracy Calderbank, which Harry said “the use of the figure on the mushroom works well.” He felt “the base is too light and bright, but it works very well.”

Third place and 18 points went to Andrew McArthur for “Don’t Touch the Grapes, They’re Off!” Judge Harry felt it had been very well captured, but thought the image may be improved if the slice of orange was removed.

Here are the results and judges comments of the Themed Images in the Print Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to know all the scores can see them in the Competition binder on display at the club.
