Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Thursday 20 October saw our final Print Competition of this year for Advanced members, with 25 images being presented to guest judge Harry Emmett form Accrington Camera Club Harry said that the overall quality and standard of the prints was very good. He said that the comments were his opinions, and it would be boring if we all liked the same images.

A total of 25 prints were shown to Harry, and top place with 20 points went to “Nature’s Fabric” by Heather Beckett. Judge Harry said it was “bizarre, but this image jumped out the moment I first saw it tonight!” He liked the “great shape of the animal, but not throughout” as we cannot see the whole animal. He said it “grabs attention” and was “very clever as we know what the beast is and look like without having to see it all.”

Second place and 19 points went to Gordon Hartley for “Anna.” Harry liked her “pleasant expression” and it was “delightful” with “superb catch light in the eyes and lips.”

Third place with 18 points was “Blue and Yellow Macaw” by Brian White. Harry said it had “superb detail and sharpness” and it “grabs attention” Harry admitted that he was “glad the bird is not this size in real life!”

Here are the results and judges comments of the top three Advanced Class images in the Print Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to see all the scores should consult the competition binder on display at the Club.
