Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Our fifth and final round of this years Projected Image Competition for advanced members took place on Thursday 15th September with judge Tony Pioli ABPE ARPS from Buxton. Tony, a founder member of Chapel-en-le-Frith Camera Club, said that whilst insects and natural history are his speciality he does not let his preferences affect his judging. He said there were many good images and he had a hard job to split some of them at the end.

A total of 30 images were submitted and 8 images were held back for further consideration. The eventual winner with 20 points was “Welcome Home Darling” by Rob Wigley. Judge Toni said this was “very creative” and “works well” and has “good lighting and taken at a good angle.

Second place and 19½ points went to “Remembering Fallen Comrades” by Brian White which judge Toni said was “a cracking image” and was “poignant” and “conveyed the mood and feeling of the moment.” He felt the main man and his flag could be a portrait mounted image as the out of focus flag in the background was “a bit distracting.”

Third place with 19 points went to “Still Waiting” by Kevin Shipley. Judge Toni “liked it” and said it was “a strong image” and “very graphic.” He pointed out “the main object was central in the frame, but this works here.”

Here are the results and judges comments of the top three Advanced Class images in the Projected Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to see all the scores should consult the competition binder on display at the Club.
