Monthly Competition Results

The Bolton Camera Club meets weekly throughout most of the year and gives a very warm welcome to visitors and new members. We have been sharing a passion for photography since 1884 and are more than happy to share with you, whether your interest is in film or digital, audio visual or more technical aspects of photography.

Our fourth Print competition of 2011 took place on Thursday 18 August and was judged by Diana Magor AFIAP LRPS BPE2* from the Hoylake Photographic Society. A total of 85 prints were presented to her on the night, and she gave constructive comments and scores on each one.

By her own admission she likes Natural History images but does not like trains, but does not let her personal opinions stop her seeing an image for what it is, regardless of the subject. Diana also likes a good title that is appropriate to the image.

A total of 33 prints were submitted to Diana for the advanced section, and 5 were held back for review during the scoring. Twenty points and 1st place went to Heather Beckett for “Penny for Them!” which judge Diana said “was in first place all along.”  She said there was “so much detail on the fur” and it is “a really good print.”

After some deliberation second place and 19 points went to Mike Williamson for “South Bank Conversation” which was “a good mono print, well taken with the curve of the building” Judge Diana was pleased to see the two people in the shot, and added “it was very well printed.”

Third place and 18½ points went to Brian White for “Cheetah in Evening Light, Namibia.” Judge Diana was impressed with the “great camouflage” and the fact that “the animal is looking at us.” She thought it was “presumably taken on Safari” and was “well caught.”

Here are the results and judges comments of the top three Advanced Class images in the Print Competition. The full statistics can be viewed by opening the attached PDF file below. Any member wanting to see all the scores should consult the competition binder on display at the Club.
