Thursday 19th January saw our monthly competitions start a new season, with guest judge Tony Duffey CAPGB being presented with an incredible 123 projected digital images. There were 42 images in the Advanced Class, 48 in the Beginners Class and an amazing 33 in the Themed Competition.
The Advanced winner was “Spotted Flycatcher” by Adrian Drummond-Hill, described by Tony as “superb” and “pin sharp with a great background,” adding it was “very well taken.”

The Winner in the Beginners Class was “The Night Watchman at Formby” by Philip Durkin, which judge Tony said was “very well handled.” Tony liked the unusual angle with the sun behind the statue, and pointed out the detail in both the sand and the sky. Tony was impressed that there was no glare, and said this image was “very well done.”

The Themed Competition was on the subject of “Shapes” and was won by new member Richard Towell with “Tail Curl.” Judge Tony said this “lovely picture” was “well spotted,” and was “interesting” and a “superb image of a perfect spiral.”
