Amendment to Procedure for Monthly Slide Competitions In response to comments from one or two judges - and requests from members - there will be a slight amendment to the way monthly slide competitions are carried out. From the June competition, all slides will have to have a title associated with them - as we currently do with the prints. If not, they will simply be labelled "Untitled". When submitting slides for competition, you will have to complete a short slip giving the title for each slide. Then leave your slides on the table near the cash box on top of your slip. Peter Maddock and Mark Power will then make a list of the slides in random order and put the slides in the slide magazine in the same order.....with the title to each slide read out as the competition progresses. The only drawback with doing this is that the slides will have to be done second every month (as opposed to the current alternating between prints and slides first), in order to give time to prepare the list. We hope this will run smoothly, but are treating it as a "trial" for 2-3 months. Needless to say, all slides will still need to be spotted as per current competition rules.
Please note that current competition rules will still apply, i.e. a maximum of six prints and/or six slides from any single worker and no print or slide must be used more than 3 times in monthly competitions (unless it comes first, second or third - in which case it cannot be used again).

Exhibitions Exhibitions are like buses these days. The club has struggled to find a location for this year's Annual Exhibition...and now three have come along all at once - with an even bigger display planned for September 2008! The club has three exhibitions starting simultaneously on the first weekend in February. Our main exhibition of the year started on Saturday, 2nd February at the Rivington Park Galleries - which is about 150m past the Bottom Barn (on the right coming from Horwich) at Rivington. We have about 50 prints on display and a collection of slides. The exhibition started with a preview for members, their family and friends on Friday, 1st February. Click here to read more about the launch of the Rivington Exhibition.
Two slightly smaller, but no less significant, exhibitions also start on the same weekend. Saturday, 2nd February sees the launch of a new exhibition organised by Joanne Galston at Harwood Library. Situated on the mezzanine floor in the library itself, the exhibition features about 30 framed prints. In addition to this, Monday, 4th February is the launch date for our regular exhibition at Waterstones in Bolton town centre. Again, this will comprise some 25 mounted prints displayed on the landing in the bookshop stairwell.
Click here to read more about the Waterstones exhibition. Click here to read more about the Harwood Library exhibition.
For the very first time, members who are exhibiting prints at either Rivington or Harwood can elect to offer their prints for sale to the public. There will also be facilities at all three sites for members of the public to register a vote for their favourite prints and/or slides. The results will be published when the exhibitions have been taken down.

Bolton CC Come Second in Rochdale Slide Comp A team from Bolton CC went over to Rochdale to take part in a novel team competition on Tuesday 6th November and came away with second place from a field of eight local camera clubs. Each team submitted 13 slides, placing a set of four slides into three knockout rounds. The judge scored each slide out of 20 and the result was decided by the combined scores for each team, with one team eliminated after each of the first and second rounds. Bolton won the first round by a significant margin, progressing through the second round in fourth place. In the third round, the top two teams went forward to a final showdown with a single slide head-to-head. Bolton came second in the final knockout round and went forward to face Bury PS in the final...losing narrowly to take second place overall. Well done all those who had slides selected for the competition, and thanks to all those who travelled to Rochdale to support the team.
